Image title	Twenty years ago, May 1, in the aftermath of the rioting sparked by the acquittal of cops who beat down Rodney King, federal troops were called in by President George H. W. Bush. I was on one of these C-141s (now retired), flying troops from Fort Ord, Calif. (now closed), to Marine Corps Air Station El Toro (now closed). Never thought I’d see such a thing in my own country, let alone California. Still find every element of this story to be hard to understand. Shot on Tri-X pushed to 1600, Nikon F3HP, Nikkor 50mm 1.4. Much of the power was out in LA, from the air, you could see the fires burning for miles. One of the saddest moments of my life.
