Summary

Description
English: Fairybells. A type of Disporum....Disporum trachycarpum. Fruit is velvety (fuzzy) lemon yellowy, then orange, then red when all the way ripe. The berry is larger than a chokecherry, saskatoon, or pincherry, about the same size as a grocery cherry or grape. Leaves are about 3 inches long and about 2 inches wide, bright green. Low growing shorter than one's knees. Found when climbing up the South Saskatchewan River bank from the shoreline to the meadow area. Saskatoon's, Buffalo berries, and chokecherries at top of river bank area also. Compared to description in book entitled Wildflower across the prairies. Compare also to flowering plant, with no berry at Disporum trachycarpum Fairybells are edible, without much flavour.
