Deutsch: Darstellung vom Zusammenhang Rippelstrom und Restwelligkeit: Die aus der gleichgerichteten Wechselspannung V1 per Diode gewonnene Gleichspannung V_plus ist mit einer Wechselspannung überlagert - sie hat eine hohe Restwelligkeit. Der resultierende Lade- und Entladestrom (Rippelstrom) im Glättungskondensator C1 hat wesentlich höhere Amplituden als der Strom durch die Last R1. Wegen P=I2R verursachen sie verhältnismäßig hohe Verlustleistung am Innenwiderstand (ESR) von C1.
