Summary

Description
English: The anatomy of glomerular basement membrane and podocyte. Podocyte is the last barrier of the glomerulus filtration membrane, which contains a slit diaphragm with 30–50 nm width. The abundant cytoskeleton proteins, such as actin and synaptopodin, maintain the normal shape of podocytes. The membrane proteins, such as podocalyxin, TRPC6, podocin, and nephrin, played an essential role in the podocyte function. Podocyte anchored into the GBM through integrins and uPAR interaction. TRPC6, transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily C member 6; GBM, glomerular basement membrane; uPAR, urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor; CD2AP, CD2-associated protein.
