Summary

Description
English: Skeletal structures for the two-step conversion of nicotinamide to 2-chloronicotinonitrile. Nicotonamide is oxidized to nicotinamide N-oxide using hydrogen peroxide, then a nucleophilic aromatic substitution using phosphorus pentachloride and phosphorus oxychloride occurs with concurrent of the amide to a nitrile.
