Description
English: Persian Gulf (Dec. 1, 2006) — One of the Navy's Mine Neutralization Vehicles (MNV) is lowered over the side prior to a mine countermeasure exercise aboard USS Ardent (MCM-12). The MNV's mission is to seek and destroy mines and is used in the region to support maritime security operations (MSO). MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
