Summary
DescriptionMauldeth Road West , Chorlton Cum Hardy - geograph.org.uk - 447423.jpg
English: Mauldeth Road West, Chorlton Cum Hardy. Chorlton Park Primary School is to the left of the photo. The road was constructed in the 1920s as a dual carriageway, with a central reservation reserved for electric trams. It was intended that this road would link to a widened Hardy Lane, which was extended to cross the river Mersey. The Hardy Lane Extension was never built, and tram lines were never laid. The median strip was planted with plane trees instead. The trees were felled in 2011 to make way for an extension of the Metrolink tram network towards Manchester Airport, which will run along the centre of this road and along Hardy Lane.
