Summary

Description
English: Human erythrocytes (red blood cells) viewed by phase contrast light microscopy. Three conditions are shown: hypertonic conditions (where the erythrocytes contract and appear "spiky"), isotonic conditions (where the erythrocytes appear normal) and hypotonic conditions (where the etrythrocytes expand and become more round).
