English: Grave of Mrs Barbauld Anna Letitia Barbauld nee Aikin(1743-1825) was born in Leicestershire and developed from a gifted child into an admired blue stocking and writer at a time when it was rare for women to achieve literary fame. She ran a school and wrote pedagogic works, poems, and essays. She also expressed political opinions and opposed slavery. She married a French Huguenot dissenting minister and eventually moved to Stoke Newington when he became minister at Newington Green church. Unfortunately he drowned himself in the New River when he lost his mind.
