JPEG file comment	GADDI, Taddeo (b. 1300, Firenze, d. 1366, Firenze) The Angelic Announcement to the Sheperds 1327-30 Fresco Cappella Baroncelli, Santa Croce, Florence Gaddi was commissioned by the rich Baroncelli family to decorate their chapel in the Santa Croce, the Franciscan church, in Florence. The frescoes depict the life of Mary. This painting is situated below the Annunciation. This is a nocturnal scene dominated by the effects of light. Gaddi was much involved in the study of light effects, perhaps as a consequence of the solar eclipses which repeatedly occurred in the 1330s.
