DescriptionFranciaaltar 5fd9c594a2.jpg |
English: FRANCIA ALTAR, the altar of the Peñafrancia shrine in the city of Naga, the Philippines, once called the Simbahan Na Bato. It was the original home of the image of Nstra. Señora de Peñafrancia.
The image was found by Simon Vela in 1434 in a place called Pena de Francia (Mountain of France). In 1711, the Philippine version of the image was carved from santol wood and painted with dog's blood mixed with some pigment. Bicolanos later venerated the image after being spared from the cholera epedemic of 1882. The Nuestra Senora de Penafrancia was canonicaly crowned in 1924. Olympus Camedia (PRRYA Summer Camp and RINCOMESA Provincial Forum on Sustainable Agriculture, April 2005). Processed with Picasa. |
