Summary

Description
English: Famine national monument at Murrisk. This is the national monument to the famine of 1845-1848. It was unveiled by President Mary Robinson in 1997, the 150th anniversary of the worst year of the famine. It depicts a coffin ship, one of many overcrowded ships that people used to get away, usually to Canada. The choice was "stay here and die", or "take a ship and probably die".
