Original Caption: This image shows comet Tempel 1 as seen through the clear filter of the medium resolution imager camera on Deep Impact. It was taken on June 27, 2005, when the spacecraft was 6,229,030.3 kilometers (3,870,719 miles) away from the comet. Three images were combined to create this picture, and a logarithmic stretch was applied to enhance the coma of the comet.
The NASA website hosts a large number of images from the Soviet/Russian space agency, and other non-American space agencies. These are not necessarily in the public domain.
The SOHO (ESA & NASA) joint project implies that all materials created by its probe are copyrighted and require permission for commercial non-educational use. [3]
