Summary

Description
English: Earnest Elmo Calkins developed a series of ads for R & G Corset Company while working in New York for Charles Austin Bates. The use of a bold photographic image on the back cover of a mass circulation periodical was a new step for the company and a harbinger of Calkins's later development of visual selling strategies. From Ladies' Home Journal, Oct. 1898, back cover.
