Summary

Description
English: Crystal structure of the mineral perovskite (calcium titanate, CaTiO3; orthorhombic, space group Pbmn). The perovskite structure type usually refers to the cubic structure (space group Pm3m) found e.g. for strontium and barium-titanate. Due to the smaller size of the Ca2+ cations, the crystal structure of the CaTiO3 prototype is slightly distorted and thus the cubic symmetry is reduced to orthorhombic. Crystallographic data: https://dx.doi.org/10.1107/S0108768192004592
The a and b axes are rotated about 45° from where the cubic axes would lie, while the c axis is oriented like the third cubic axis. The unit-cell dimension in the c direction is twice what the cubic unit cell dimension would be, and the other two are longer by about the square root of two, so that the orthorhombic cell contains four formulas instead of one.
