In erbitterten, beiderseits verlustreichen Kämpfen wehrte die Rote Armee das weitere Vordringen der faschistischen Truppen ab. Während der sowjetischen Gegenoffensive im November 1942 wurden über 300 000 Mann eingeschlossen. Die Reste dieser Verbände, etwa 91 000 Mann, kapitulierten am 31.1. und 2.2.1943 Stalingrad im Oktober 1942; sowjetische MPi-Schützen kämpfen in den Ruinen des Werkes "Roter Oktober"
