DescriptionBeluga Hunt Salluit.jpg
English: When I was seven years old and spending some time in the Inuit village of Salluit, I saw two men on the beach aiming and firing a rifle to the sea. As I walked outside my home to see what was going on, other men drove a pickup truck backwards onto the beach. One of the men flung a roped harpoon tied to the truck and pulled an infant beluga out of the sea. She was killed and butchered on the beach. Much of the village attended the event; people would grab a share of the hot flesh and eat it raw. I took this picture, as well as a small piece of the whale's skin, the muktuk, which tasted something like meat-flavoured Jello.
