Ses frères, Sigebert, Gontran et Charibert, le surprennent à Paris et font valoir leurs droits. La scène se situe dans l'île de la Cité. Assassinat de Sigebert Ier (au premier plan) : Lors du siège de Tournai, ville dans laquelle Chilpéric et sa famille se sont réfugiés, un émissaire de Frédégonde transperce la gorge de Sigebert allongé sous sa tente.
