Summary

Description
English: This profile was photographed in Androscoggin county Maine. The soil is formed in Wisconsin Age glacial till from mixed igneous and metamorphic material. The site is on a 6 percent convex side slope. The site is forested by hardwood, pine and fir species. A thin E (albic) horizon is present from about 3 to 10 cm under a thin O horizon. The uneven micro topography is common and can be attributed to tree-throw as wind storms have uprooted trees. A reddish brown Bs (spodic) horizon is present from 10 to 60 cm below which a dense C horizon with grey colored mottles indicates that saturation and reduction of iron. Few if any roots enter the C horizon. These soils are seldom cultivated but some have been cleared for pasture.
