English: Amphora for winner of Panathenaic Games, it would be filled with oil from the sacred grove of olive trees. Decoration on these prize amphoras remained black-figured as Athenian vase painters switched to the red-figured technique at the end of the 6th century BC, emphasizing the tradition of the games. Though the image support movement, raising left arm and leg at the same time would impede fast running. Pottery, Euphiletos Painter. Athens (Greece), c. 530-520 BC (inv. 1897)
Nederlands: Amfora voor de winnaar van de Panathenaic Spelen, die gevuld zou zijn met olijfolie van de heilige olijfbomen. De decoratie op zulke prijsamforaas bleef zwartfigurig, terwijl de Atheense vaasschilders aan het eind van de 6e eeuw v. Chr. Overgingen op de roodfigurige techniek. Hiermee werd de oude traditie benadrukt. Hoewel de pose van de renners snelheid suggereert is hun techniek onjuist, ze rennen met gelijk geheven linker arm en been. Euphiletos-schilder.
