English: A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 145th Airlift Wing, North Carolina Air National Guard, takes off Oct. 23, 2007, from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, N.C. The North Carolina Air National Guard has deployed three C-130s, flight crews and support personnel to Port Hueneme/Channel Islands, Calif., to assist the U.S. Forest Service in firefighting efforts to contain, control and extinguish wild fires. The aircraft will utilize the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System, which is a fire fighting apparatus that is loaded into the aircraft's cargo area and consists of a series of pressurized tanks that hold 3,000 gallons of flame-retardant liquid called Phos-Chek. |
