Summary

Description
English: Fig. 1. A general overview of E.coli pathotypes and their reservoir: Ⓐ ETEC, EHEC, and EIEC strain in faecal matter of ruminants transferred into to meat during slaughtering. Ⓑ ETEC, EHEC, and EIEC strain in faecal matter mixed into the run-off water. Ⓒ ETEC and EHEC in ruminant faecal matter are transmitted into farming water irrigation systems. Ⓓ ETEC and EHEC develop in edible green leafy vegetables. Ⓔ ETEC, EIEC, EHEC, and EAEC strain in contaminated food transmitted into the human intestine by assimilation. Ⓕ Improper water treatment, ETEC, and EIEC travel in drinking water which causes contamination in humans during water intake. Ⓖ EAEC, ETEC, EHEC, and EIEC strains cross contaminated between humans and food due to unhygienic food preparation. Ⓗ EIEC and ETEC strains from human faecal contaminate water resources through sewage. Ⓘ EIEC and atypical-EPEC (aEPEC) are directly transmitted to humans. The reservoir and transmission for DAEC and AIEC pathotypes remain unknown and yet to be investigated [4].
