Jasmin Castro Bungay is a Filipino teacher, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2024. She will represent the Philippines at The Miss Globe 2024 pageant.

Bungay is an advocate of OFW welfare, as part of the community, and a supporter of equal and equitable treatment of people regardless of their SOGIESC (sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics).[2]

Early life and education

Jasmin Bungay was raised in the municipality of Porac in Pampanga. Bungay graduated magna cum laude from Angeles University Foundation with a degree in Secondary Education majoring in Mathematics and is a licensed professional teacher.[2][3] She worked as an Overseas Filipino Worker in Dubai's logistics and freight forwarding industry.[4] Additionally, she worked as a model, becoming one of Harvey Cenit's muses and walking for designers such as Michael Cinco and Ezra Santos.[5]

Pageantry

Early pageants

In December 2016, Bungay was crowned Mutya ning Kapampangan 2016 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.[6] She also managed to enter as one of the Top 10 finalists for Miss Millennial Philippines 2017, a tourism beauty pageant segment of the Philippines' longest-running variety show, Eat Bulaga!.[7]

Binibining Pilipinas 2024

On April 5, 2024, Bungay was announced as one of the 40 delegates to the 60th edition of the Binibining Pilipinas 2024 pageant, representing the province of Pampanga.[8][9] Bungay won Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2024, crowned by her predecessor Anna Lakrini, on July 7, 2024 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.[10]

During the question-and-answer portion, she was asked by Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, "If you were given 30 minutes to talk to the public, what would you talk about?" Bungay responded:[11]

If I would be given 30 minutes to talk to the public, I would like to talk about the passing of the SOGIE SC bill. Because, in celebrations such as pageants, this community has contributed so much. And in this regard, we can give back to them by supporting this cause because as an individual, it is our responsibility that we ensure that everyone is treated equally despite their SOGIE.[12]

As a winner of the pageant's 60th edition, Bungay and co-winner Binibining Pilipinas International 2024 Myrna Esguerra received a cash prize of 1,000,000, the largest cash prize in the pageant's history.[13][14]

The Miss Globe 2024

As Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2024, Bungay will represent the Philippines at The Miss Globe 2024 pageant in Albania.[10]
