I have blocked you for apparent promotional editing on a group mentioned in your User name . Perhaps you should re-register with a name that represents you as an individual . Brookie :) { - like the mist - there one moment and then gone!} (Whisper...) 16:01, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. LinguistunEinsuno 16:28, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Eldorado Shreveport, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. Need to update user name and unblock so we are able to have proper ability to edit and change information for our properties on Wikipedia

This does not address your spamming. In fact, it seems to imply you plan to continue with your inappropriate edits. Yamla (talk) 17:14, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

How is publishing information about our properties and their history spamming? We understand using Wikipedia is an information based site and have no intention of using it for self promotion.

Decline reason:

I looked at the now-deleted article and agree that deletion as promotional was correct, which makes the block correct as well. Drmies (talk) 17:22, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Request reason:

Thank you for reinforcing your other admins decision. I appreciate any effort you have placed into this. My only question now, is, how do we proceed? We would like to have proper presence on Wikipedia. Similar to other casino groups. Please advise our best approach moving forward. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 17:26, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It goes without saying that social media marketing is prohibited here. Our readers expect independent coverage of the subject matter, not covert advertising. Your company is not entitled to a Wikipedia article and you will emphatically not be unblocked to write about it. MER-C 18:06, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Based on reading more of Wikipedia's unblocking process, please allow us to earn your trust again. Please let us know what exactly was deemed as spamming with the previous page (now deleted) edits so we can be made completely aware of why we were blocked. We are disheartened we have broke your policies, but since we are new to this process, I feel this is made in error simply because we were not made aware of what we had done wrong. Any assistance or information to get us on a path of alignment would be most appreciated. Sincerely, Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 17:49, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
For starters, you will need to note any edit that you make related to your company's holding as being paid edits. Even this is a step that is often discouraged, given the inherent conflict of interest that you would have with those articles. A better path would be to make edit requests, using the appropriate template, on the talk pages of those articles and allow an editor with no COI make the edits, if they are - in fact - appropriate for an encyclopedia. As to unblocking you, that's not something that I can address, as I am not an administrator. StrikerforceTalk 18:09, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
Didn't you include URLs for all the franchises that served coffee or whatever in the hotel? That's obvious spam. Drmies (talk) 00:32, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Block evasion

This user engaged in block evasion as Suby15 (talk · contribs) in August, 2018. --Yamla (talk) 19:48, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Based on reading previous articles, it was suggested to create a new profile. Is this not accurate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talkcontribs)

That is not accurate, not while this account remains blocked. If you like, I can swap the two usernames around, so this one is called Suby15 and the other is called Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc. This will not unblock you; until you can convince an admin to lift this block, you (you, the person, whatever account you are using) are prohibited from editing. Note that I do not believe you were acting maliciously in setting up that account. I do believe you probably had not yet read WP:SOCK and I understand we have a lot of policies and it can be hard figuring out the right thing to do when you are a new user. --Yamla (talk) 20:04, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Request reason:

I have read all the policies. I will not attempt to write or edit about my properties ever again to avoid violating WP:COI. I will use this account (with username changed) to edit other interests I have such as foxes. Please understand, I was unknowing previously, but I fully understand why my actions had been blocked. For that I apologize immensely.

Accept reason:

Yamla, if you say so. Suby, or whatever your new name will be, the first part of your draft was OK--it was the rest that ruined it. Tip? Do NOT think you're doing your company a favor by writing up a Wikipedia article: that is not the right way to think about things. Think "boring". Drmies (talk) 00:41, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Having had a discussion with this user elsewhere, I think it's worth considering this unblock. I'm not the blocking admin and have previously declined a request, so I leave the decision to another admin. I believe this user has indeed read the policies, including WP:COI, WP:PAID, and WP:PROMO. I think it would be easy to reimpose a block if it turns out I'm mistaken, but I'm hopeful I'm not. --Yamla (talk) 21:11, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Yamla You will not be mistaken. I have learned from my mistakes and will adhere to the policies in place for the greater good of Wikipedia. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 21:22, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
  • Mike, thanks for your email. If you want to reply, you can do so by leaving a message on this page, and I will know you have done so if you start it with my user name, User:Jimfbleak and sign it with four tildes ~~~~ when you post it. That will send me an alert. @Drmies:, @Yamla: Your assurances above do not altogether match with what you said in your email only 14 hours ago you deleted a page my team had created for our property in Shreveport, LA... I need to get this matter alleviated so we can update the remainder of our properties missing pages and/or improper information on their current pages. I wasn't consulted about unblocking you, but if you don't honour the pledge you have made, or create any more sock puppet accounts, I won't hesitate to block you again, and you'll find it much harder to get unblocked again Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:56, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
  • User:Jimfbleak, thanks for the note here. I saw the socks after the unblock--reading over all this again made me realize there might be more to it. And the mention of a "team", and this speaking in the plural, that's disconcerting. And I fully agree with the short leash you're offering. Drmies (talk) 14:34, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
  • @Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc: I am willing to make any edits that you may feel are needed for your company's other properties, assuming that those edits are appropriate for the encyclopedia under existing policies. If this is acceptable to you, please start a new thread on my Talk page that has those edits. Make sure to use the <nowiki> </nowiki> tags at the beginning and end of the proposed edits, please. I will review and make the appropriate revisions and/or article creations. StrikerforceTalk 13:48, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
  • User:Strikerforce, you don't have to ping someone on their own talk page. I'm not quite sure why you're offering to edit as a proxy. If the editor is unblocked, and if they declare a conflict of interest (Mike York needs to look at WP:DISCLOSE and follow the instructions there), they can edit those articles themselves. If you are perhaps also offering assistance and maybe oversight, that's fine--but the best place to propose COI edits is on the article talk page. Creating new COI articles can be done through WP:FIRST, for instance, or just immediately into article space, but with the proper disclosures. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 14:34, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
  • The ping is just habit, sorry. Let me clarify - I feel that what I'm offering to this editor is a peer review of his edits, as you mentioned. I suggested my Talk page as a place where he would not only be able to propose his edits, but I could also "coach" (perhaps not the best term?) him on how to improve his work, without filling the article talk pages with unnecessary chatter. Additional commentary added I'm offering to create any new articles that would fall under COI on his behalf as a means for Mike to make sure to not go too far in the article, if he were to create it, and include material that may bring us back to a block situation. I feel that he has an interest in contributing positively to Wikipedia, but needs help staying within policies, at the outset. I'm just volunteering to help. StrikerforceTalk 14:50, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
User:Jimfbleak @Drmies:, @Yamla:, @Strikerforce: I want to thank everyone for their time and help in this matter and furthermore the consideration in place for lifting my block. With that said, as I am a new user and I want to ensure I am crystal clear about everything previously discussed. I would like to offer deletion of the sock accounts, using this as my primary, submit request to change user name for one to protect my identity and the company I work for. With that said, I am within my means to suggest edits in the talk pages of my properties without existing pages and/or incorrect information to allow other contributors to edit the pages with their discretion given the information is backed by proper citation? Please let me know if this is an approved process. Lastly, I want to thank all again. I feel I can contribute positively to the Wikipedia community. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 16:09, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
As well, I should have read further. Account deletion is not possible. However since those socks have not made any contributions can I offer up courtesy vanishing?Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 16:26, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

What you're asking to do (courtesy vanish) wouldn't be appropriate here - please what vanishing is not at this page. Clean start would be the appropriate action. StrikerforceTalk 16:38, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

User:Strikerforce I have placed a request for name change. Would it be best to simply abandon all accounts and start with a brand new one? I feel that may be counterproductive. But again, I am new. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 16:50, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
The name change should be sufficient. The other accounts, however, will - I'm nearly certain - remain blocked without the ability to edit their talk pages. StrikerforceTalk 16:52, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
User:Strikerforce Which is completely fine. I have no intentions of "sock-puppeteering." I understand the policies completely and intend to use this account solely for my contributions to Wikipedia.Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 17:02, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
User:StrikerforceAt any rate, I would like to ensure a "clean start." To show I can be trusted as a contributor. The previous, numerous, mistakes I made were simply out of ignorance and lack of proper research. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 17:04, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

User:JimfbleakI am still being shown as blocked so my name change had been denied. Can I please be unblocked so I can proceed with my name change? Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 16:22, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) From a purely procedural POV, I think that a situation like this is probably going to default to the admin that originally issued the block being the one that also lifts it. That seems to be the usual way that these sort of things go, from my observation. StrikerforceTalk 16:46, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
User:Strikerforce Understandable. Which is why I tagged User:Jimfbleak because it is showing he was the originating admin who initiated the block. I simply want to get these mistakes behind me. I would like the perception I have created to be expunged and begin a path of trust and complete transparency. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 16:50, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
User:Strikerforce, I don't know what other admins do, but I always leave my blocks for others to consider, I don't think it's fair for the person I blocked to arbitrate on my own blocks. If another admin wishes to unblock this account, I won't object, but Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc, I think you will have to ping those admins who have commented here or file another unblock request. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 18:27, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
User:Jimfbleak Fair enough. Thank you for following up. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 18:31, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Request reason:

I would like to ensure all admins reviewing this block, I am fully aware and have read all policies in place by Wikipedia and the proper usage of this platform. I commit to using only this account for my contributions to Wikipedia and not those in the interest of my company without proper protocol. (i.e. WP:COI disclosure or another contributing editor as a proxy.) I appreciate any time or effort you place with this request. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 18:38, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Drmies I'm confused. There's an accepted unblock request above on 10 August, but the account is still blocked from 8 August. Should Mike be blocked or not? To be honest, his contributions to mainspace are insignificant when compared to the discussion we've been having over this, so I'm inclined to not unblock. Mike, can you explain if there are any other articles on Wikipedia (that have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Eldorado Resorts) that you would like to edit? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:12, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

User:Ritchie333 Thank you for reaching out. Without sounding too wordy, I have plenty of articles I would like to contribute to based on knowledge of a plethora of things. Most subjects range from music (varying genres), movies, television, technology, fresh water fish (and home aquariums/breeding), among many others. These are the few that come to me, top of mind. I feel I can be a great contributor to the Wikipedia platform from a personal standpoint, disregarding all edits for Eldorado Resorts. If it pleases all admins involved, as I have suggested before, I can use the Eldorado talk pages to suggest edits where another non-COI editor can peer review the information to publish at their discretion. Only if that is an approved method. I purely want to be a part of this community. As always, I appreciate any time, effort, or consideration all have put into this. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 16:28, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
I'm a big music editor - currently doing a major cleanup operation on Led Zeppelin-related stuff, also musical instruments like Hammond organ, and there's a big grassroots classical music operative. Do any of those things take your fancy? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:31, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
User:Ritchie333 Most of my childhood was influenced by classic rock and blues. So yes, Led Zeppelin would be an interest of mine, among others. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 16:37, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) With all due respect, I feel that we're making this editor jump through too many hoops. In my opinion, we should either accept his unblock request and proceed with his requested rename, with the clear stipulation that he strictly adhere to policies regarding COI, etc... or decline and move on. StrikerforceTalk 16:39, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
I'm really waiting for Drmies to reply to my earlier comment first, I just thought it would be useful to have a brief conversation about other non-COI topics while we wait would cement the view that he can edit in other spheres. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:40, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'm not questioning your motives, for the record. I'm actually in agreement with you about the amount of time and effort that this editor has put into responding to things on this page versus the action(s) that led to the block, in the first place. Perhaps I'm just odd in that way, but it's rather comical, to me. StrikerforceTalk 16:44, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
  • User:Ritchie333, now I'm confused too. I wonder if I meant to unblock and then forgot to take that particular action. Yes, I was fine with unblocking, and tell you what, go ahead and do it if you think that's right (and I think you think that), and then you get to be the good guy, and I'm the forgetful old one. Thanks, and Mike York, my apologies. Drmies (talk) 16:55, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Drmies Not a problem. I appreciate your transparency. I want to thank you all for your consideration and the ability to properly contribute as I am now very aware of the proper procedure within the community. Cheers, Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 16:59, 14 August 2018 (UTC) 16:58, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Just one final point, Mike - if you want to change your username to something more neutral, go to Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple and request a name change. And don't get caught up with any more COI editing otherwise you really will be blocked with no chance of appeal. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:00, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

User:Ritchie333 Thank you. Request submitted. As far as COI, heard, extremely loud and clear. I will not fail you or other admins. You have my word. Mike York at Eldorado Resorts Inc (talk) 17:05, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
Name change has taken effect and on the righteous path of becoming a Wikipedian! Today is a great day. Thank you again to all for this opportunity! MRYork (talk) 18:42, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
