Yamla Convincing? I already feel like I'm an enemy of the state for attempting to even communicate with Admins here.
- Yeap, I understand. The problem is, we get a lot of people here trying to use Wikipedia as a business directory rather than an encyclopedia. Lots of people blatantly lie about it. I mean, flat out lie. Administrators are volunteers and we end up spending a lot of time each day dealing with this. That results in us being rather unfairly short-tempered with people like you who are trying to do the right thing and just don't understand that you can't do what you are trying to do. Basically, here's the situation. You aren't going to be unblocked to write about the resort. You aren't going to be unblocked to write about that field, generally. I know you want to, I know it seems like it's reasonable for you to do so, but it's not. To understand why, check out WP:COI, WP:PAID, WP:PROMO, and for good measure, WP:NOT. Okay, fine, so how can you be unblocked? If you want to write about other topics, topics for which there's no conflict of interest, give some examples. Let's say you enjoy, I don't know, foxes because they are hilarious and always get stuck places. No conflict of interest there. So, make an unblock request, indicate you've read the policies, note that you won't edit about the resort any more and you'll avoid violating WP:COI, and note that you now want to start by editing about foxes. That'd get you unblocked pretty quickly, I think. If your only goal is to promote your resort, that's understandable. I mean, hey, that may be entirely your job and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just, you can't do it here, not on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia rather than a business directory. Nothing wrong with business directories, it's just that Wikipedia isn't one. I hope my tone came through clearly here. I don't think you are trying to do anything wrong, it's just that Wikipedia isn't the place for you to do what you are trying to do. Yamla WOW! My jaw in on the floor! This all the pertinent information I needed from the get go! Thank you very much! I know this may seem as I am coming off as sarcastic, but trust me this is the genuine article...No pun intended. Also, you are right, it is my job for the well being of my companies social media, however as you have expressed, it simply is not a place for me to do so in Wikipedia. I get that. Completely. Also you are right, I would never try to lie about anything with the powers that be at Wikipedia. I was merely tasked with an opportunity and did not follow through proper procedure. Thank you again for being a huge help and I will try and appease the appeal process for unblocking.
