More concise translation
Dear to me is sleep, to be more like stone,
Whilst injury and shame persist (endure);
Not to see, nor hear (sense/feel), is my grand fortune;
Thereby awaken (disturb) me not; hush, speak softly. 174.95.104.133 (talk) 01:41, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Best translation
I am not sure if this is the best translation, it is correct to say that "soldato di ventura" get translated as "soldier of fortune" but, while I am not sure about the exact meaning the word "ventura" had in those times, "ventura" can be also be translated as "adventure, hardship", so the last two verses become:
Not to see, nor hear (sense/feel), is my grand adventure/hardship;
But awaken (disturb) me not; hush, speak softly.
(in modern italian "ventura" has took the meaning of "adventure" only and does not mean "fortune" anymore, as "PerĂ²" is better translated into "But" rather than into "Thereby")
And that changes the meaning a lot.
