Sockpuppet

The Gladius, I'm accusing you of being a sockpuppet of John Wallace Rich for the following reasons:

  • Use Of Similar Edit Summaries, Each Word Capitalised.
  • You came down clearly in favour of John Wallace Rich's supported version of the killed in action article with no explanation (diff).
  • You edited John Wallace Rich's user page to make a minor amendment with no complaint from John.

I may be willing to believe, however, that you are, rather than John himself, a friend or relation, but that would make you a Meatpuppet, which is equally unallowable on Wikipedia. This account is also self-admittedly a role account which is not allowed either; I recommend that you create separate accounts for each person; it's not too hard to log in and out. --Scott Wilson 17:41, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Someone pointed out on WikiEn-L that your second sentence actually recommends that the user violate your first sentence, because the second account that you recommend creating would then be considered a meatpuppet by your own rule. Ken Arromdee 04:06, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This couldn't be a sockpuppet because it's a two-person account it says. Couldn't they just have good grammar? In addition, I filed a similar complaint against PocklingtonDan where he had edited another user's page, (Stillstudying), and the complaint's disappeared, not even in the archives, and it occurred in an election. Moreover, I see other edits of the user page of PocklingtonDan without comment by Qxz. I also see many apparent role accounts, e.g. Qxz and Langara_College, and these two people, The Gladius, admit they're family. What gives? John Wallace Rich 02:51, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John, any responses you make to the allegations here are wasted - they should be made at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/John Wallace Rich in order to be properly considered by those looking at the case. To respond to your concerns over my own case in which you thought I might be a sockpuppet, the edit in question [1] was to wikilink and disambiguate an item on the user's page. It is perfectly permissible under wikipedia policy to edit other people's user pages in this manner. If you look through my thousands of edits you will probably find that I have edited dozens of other users' talk pages - this on its own is extremely weak evidence of sockpuppetry.
With regard to the edit by user Qxz of my webpage [2] it is clear that he was just reverting vandalism to my page. Again, editing other's user pages in such a manner is not alone indicative of sockpuppetry.
