Vernacular Music Center article

I think that the large amount of "further reading" links to this article that you have placed in other articles has put this onto a lot of radar screens (that's what brought me there). Someone just tagged/nominated the VMC article for speedy deletion. I contested it and removed the tag. But what I wrote on my first post on the talk page is even more applicable. I would strongly recommend finding coverage by wp:notability-suitable sources and incorporating them as references. I don't mind helping a little in this area, but I think that it will require some work by you. Whoever tagged it for speedy deletion might nominate it for a regular deletion, and without those sources, there is a strong possibility that the result would be to delete it. Understood. Am still getting a handle on authoring and what is/is not "best practice." Have now made first page through the article and modified "For Further Reading" content links from other wikipedia pages. VMC

Hi Dr. Smith. As you already know the discussion concerning the future of VMC is not closed yet, but I wanted to leave you a message with a list of links that may be helpful to you in the future when ever you want to edit/create an article that has something to do with your professional life. I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to discourage you. I know that may be hard to believe since I'm the one who nominated your article for deletion but that's not true. To be clear, it is true that I still don't think VMC warrants its own article BUT it's not true that I think you shouldn't be contributing to Wikipedia. You should and you can. So I did some research and came up with the following links so that you're aware of what you're not allowed to do AND of the opportunities that only editors like you can participate in because you're a professor.

  • WP:GLAM/Getting started
    • GLAM as in Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums: "Culture-sector professionals are encouraged to contribute to Wikipedia. Since it's not always easy to know how to contribute correctly, this page provides a centralised place to find relevant advice and to seek specific assistance."
  • WP:COIU
    • In a nutshell "Editors who may have a general conflict of interest are allowed to make [six] kinds of non-controversial edits... Those with a potential conflict of interest are encouraged to upload good-quality digital media files that are appropriately licensed for Wikipedia and that improve our coverage of a subject. For more information, follow the instructions at Commons."
  • WP:PSCOI
    • PSCOI stands for Plain and Simple Conflict Of Interest guide. This is a long but easy to understand essay "for editors who want to engage with Wikipedia articles about a subject they are affiliated with."
  • Potential resources
    • Wordbuilder (talk · contribs) is the primary editor of the Texas Tech article. He/she could help with VMC intergration if that becomes the consensus of the deletion discussion. This link contains a list of editors who are professors like you. Someone on that list (as long as they are still active) should be able to help you navigate Wikipedia w/o running into any COI issues. Maybe this interests you as well --> [1]. I don't know anything about it. I found it while leaving you this message.

Yes, this is very helpful indeed. Of course I am committed to full compliance and yes, as you've inferred, I have a lot to learn about guidelines & parameters. Time available is also an issue. My current intent is to communicate with the TTU primary editor. At the moment, if I'm not able to bring the article into compliance in a timely fashion, I'm resigned to its deletion.
