Question from SDIL1 on Draft:San Diego International Law Journal (18:25, 7 March 2024)

Hello there. How do I get the table to appear to the right in mobile view? Thank you?

I made the table to appear similar to the infobox journal template, but the mobile view is problematic.

Is there a way to incorporate the table inside a template so that the page displays similarly to other Law Journal pages using the same template?

I don’t want to use the infobox journal template because there are parameters missing for info that I need to display like “Volume” and “Faculty Advisor.” That’s why I made a table instead. However, it’s causing the mobile page to appear differently than with the template.

Any ideas? Thank you. --SDIL1 (talk) 18:25, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

@SDIL1. I'm unsure. What table are you talking about? {{Infobox journal}} is a standard infobox that is used on articles about journals. ─ Aafī (talk) 05:39, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from Bhlarg (10:03, 29 March 2024)

Should I spend money to achieve a completely accurate representation of an edit? Recently got a medium level edit of Spacelords (Raiders of the lost planet) that would require an almost entire rebuild including general gameplay and full understanding of what it was/is, despite it being free its described as a demo in some steam reviews, and having tried to experience it in the past to the same conclusion. --Bhlarg (talk) 10:03, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

@Bhlarg: Do you mean someone asked you money for making an edit on Wikipedia? Paid-editing on Wikipedia is strictly prohibited. One needs to follow certain principles of editing such as having reliable sources that backup the information, writing information in a neutral tone, when contributing to Wikipedia. Best regards, ─ Aafī (talk) 13:59, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

That's not exactly the case in terms of Spacelords. I am not being paid or was said to be paid for an edit to their Wikipedia page. The main question asked was that would it be responsible to pay for access to all currently available content within the game as to make a full rework of the page itself, considering its more of a "Pay to win" system. I have recently decided it might have been worth the trouble considering their more recent works under Nintendo, specifically "Metroid: Dread" that they are still an active studio and aren't using Spacelords as a way to keep money flowing. Despite this distrusting attitude, it seemed like a genuinely interesting rebuild that would have been a fun side project. Unfortunately, time was not exactly on my side on whether or not to decide or even write this reply. Thanks for your consideration, but in the end I think I will keep my wallet. --Bhlarg (talk) 3:57, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Aafi,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Help Muslim World Article

Member Manticore repeatedly deleted sentences about Islam growth which was based on Pew Research. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.140.166.67 (talk) 18:08, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Please help improve Muslim World Article. Member Manticore repeatedly deleted sentences about Islam growth according to Pew Research.

In 1900 Muslims only numbered 200 million followers or 12% of the world population. This percentage drastically increased over the last 100 years due to higher birth rate in Muslim majority countries.[1][2] Pew Research have estimated the number will be around 2.2 billion in 2030 and 2.8 billion, or 30 percent of world population, in 2050.[3][4]

In Muslim world article user Manticore had deleted this sentences with different reason. First he claimed it was out of topic, poor written (it could targetted non English contributors), and wikipedia not a Crystal Glass (but in Religion Growth Population had cited Pew Research estimated).

I'd really apprecite if you don't post messages at the top of my user talk page. There is a big note stating that post new messages at bottom. I am also unsure which article you are talking about. It would be good if you can share the link if you want to get my feedback. However, I really don't improve articles on request. I have my own life and interests. Question from MJ Nicholson on John Learmont (15:22, 12 April 2024)

I am disappointed that no mention has been made of General John’s contribution to the successful ‘handover operation’ of Rhodesia. As the Brigade Commander he played a pivotal role in the operation. Also there’s no mention of his parents - was his father Colonel Learmont who received military evacuees from Op Haddock in Gibraltar in July 1940? --MJ Nicholson (talk) 15:22, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi @MJ Nicholson. Welcome to Wikipedia, an open encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Articles are contributed to by people like you on Wikipedia. Wikipedia contributes edit on the encyclopedia voluntarily and contribute to their topics of interest on their own will and according to what they find in reliable sources to which they have access. If you have reliable resources that mention information about John Learmont, please feel free to include that information in your own words in the given article. Take a look at WP:NPOV and WP:CITE when you try adding the information. ─ Aafī (talk) 19:22, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

New Article Help

Salam Alaikum,

Recently submitted my first article on the Islamic Academia subsection of Islamic Philosophy. I submitted a page for a philosopher who is rising in fame and recognition in the Muslim community quite significantly, he was originally a PhD student of Abdal Hakim Murad and a close friend of his. Now he has gained significant affect in Islamic philosophy dialogues. I didn't find many reviewers in this niche save you, so was wondering if you could take a look!

Many thanks! Cogitarus (talk) 21:02, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Wa alaykums salam, @Cogitarus. The only thing that can help is what has been summarised at WP:42, and it is, "Articles generally require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic" so that they meet the general notability guideline, our article inclusion guidelines. This page delves into several unique and individual notability criterias for different types of people and it would be beneficial for you to go through it. I also suggest you to look around and see works about him, rather than works by him. These may include peer-reviewed articles, reliable news resources, in-print or online, languages don't matter, that significantly discuss him. Best regards, ─ Aafī (talk) 06:23, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Hmm. I added multiple sources that mention him and fulfill some of these criteria however I am a bit curious as almost every page I look at concerning muslim figures fulfill a similar level of sources. Take a look at for instance the page of Faraz Rabbani or Jonathan A. C. Brown both seem to cite little known tabloids and even their own articles. Am I missing something here? Cogitarus (talk) 11:58, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
@Cogitarus If something exists in a bad condition, is not a valid reason for making a new bad thing. Improvements should be made to existing articles that have remained in such a condition. Nice articles around the subject that you can look up to are Mahmud Hasan Deobandi (a Good Article), and others such as Taha Karaan and Ebrahim Desai, among many others. The reason that a vast majority of article related to Muslim figures exist in a terrible state is very simple one, and it is that not many people are here who have interest in these topics. I hope this makes sense. ─ Aafī (talk) 13:07, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
I understand that of course, I was just wondering whether the fact that they possibly do not reach the threshold of notability but are never really revoked is strange. How do they get approved as they are if not by an approved reviewer?
Also thank you for the examples, are there any of living people? Cogitarus (talk) 00:29, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
@Cogitarus This encyclopedia has developed over the years so the processes and guidelines. For example, the article on Faraz Rabbani was created in 2004 when the WP:AFC didn't exist - and since the newness of the encyclopedia, people then worried about more content? rather than directly and strictly focusing on quality principles. Things and times have changed. Improvements should be made to these old articles by those that know the subject. Of those that I'm aware about the living people, Muhammad ibn Adam Al-Kawthari is okay, whilst Rafiq Ahmad Pampori and Nazir Ahmad Qasmi are in more better states. ─ Aafī (talk) 16:33, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from Shudhikarangkp (07:19, 3 June 2024)

Hello Mentor, I want to start a page on the topic of "Drug De Addiction Center" please suggest how will i start and which point i will keep in mind to write, can i take help of AI tools to write, please suggest --Shudhikarangkp (talk) 07:19, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Hello @Shudhikarangkp. Anything that you plan to write on Wikipedia should comply with the notability guidelines i.e. generally it should have significant coverage in multiple, reliable sources that are independent of it. It should adhere to the manual of style and neutral point of view. You can take helo from AI tools but make sure that the resulting content complies with these guidelines i.e. is neutral, is written in your own wordings (does not copy paste) and includes citations to reliable sources. Best regards, ─ Aafī (talk) 16:47, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArazJalalZangabady (01:03, 5 June 2024)

Hello there, my father was a kurdish writer who wrote books in arabic his name is Jalal Zangabadi and i would like to dedicate a Wikipedia page for my father so people who search him could get sufficient information about him in a site like Wikipedia. Thank you for your help in advance. --ArazJalalZangabady (talk) 01:03, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi @ArazJalalZangabady and thank you for thinking of this but it appears that you have a very huge conflict of interest. If your father and his work has received a significant coverage in secondary resources such as books and news, you can submit a draft through WP:AFC however please make sure it is adequately sourced and complies with neutral point of view and does not include puffery. ─ Aafī (talk) 16:52, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I don't understand this. Do you mind explaining it more easily? DrewMan2112 (talk) 13:27, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Sure, I would love to. What is the article where you want to add an image into the infobox? Have you uploaded the image, either locally here or on Wikimedia Commons? ─ Aafī (talk) 15:44, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
I am trying to add an infobox to my user page, and I'm not sure what you mean about uploading the image. DrewMan2112 (talk) 17:42, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Okay. So any infobox has a parameter for example like |image= Name of the file.jpg which is used to add an image. About uploading, I meant to say that if that image doesn't exist yet on Wikimedia Commons or here, you would need to upload it first. ─ Aafī (talk) 18:26, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
I am so sorry, but I just realized that this whole time, I meant to be talking about userboxes, not infoboxes. How do upload an image into a userbox? DrewMan2112 (talk) 20:18, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Actually, nevermind. Can you give me some suggestions on how to move around userboxes? I want mine to be organized into a sort-of square. DrewMan2112 (talk) 21:02, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

Help on Muhammad Page

Hi, can you please help with the page on the prophet Muhammad? I am having issues with other editors who are uninformed about the topic deleting my edits. They are not educated about the topic of sira and post invalid and fabricated stories, quote erroneous sources, and other issues. DivineReality (talk) 07:41, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

Hello @DivineReality. Just a bit of advice. Although I understand your perspective, it's best to not to refer to other editors as "uneducated." This may come off as WP:PersonalAttack and goes against mutual WP:GOODFAITH, leading to the matter of being blocked. StarkReport (talk) 07:39, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
@DivineReality: As noted by @StarkReport in their response, it is not okay to call others outrightly as uneducated. This is a collaborative place where we come together in a friendly manner to share into the sum of all human knowledge taking care of verifiability and accuracy in the scholarship. Over the last few months, I have really been semi-actively engaged with this encyclopedia due to my own life but all I can say, the article's talk page is the place. You can leave a message for members of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Islam on the project's talk page asking them to contribute into the discussion rather than support your arguments. (See WP:CANVASSING). As @VR has already made a note, primary sources should be avoided. I advice you to contribute in the discussions very calmly and explain how and why the changes made are necessary and seek a consensus there because edit warring is not a good practice. In order to have something reach the level of consensus, it is really not fine to enter into a defensive mode. Put up your point, argue with a neutral friendly manner, and let others contribute. This is how good and fruitful discussions are shaped. Best regards, ─ Aafī (talk) 18:35, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
I've read the part on what constitutes a personal attack. It doesn't line up with anything I've written. But I'll change it here to just "uninformed" anyways. Thanks. DivineReality (talk) 22:33, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
