Information icon Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Hermit thrush. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. Eric talk 01:36, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's just that "Hermit Thrush" is a proper noun, and it should be capitalized. According to the American Ornithological Society: "English names of birds are capitalized in keeping with standard ornithological practice. As noted by Parkes (1978), capitalization also prevents ambiguity between a species name and a description in such cases as 'gray flycatcher' or 'solitary sandpiper.'” 169.234.220.45 (talk) 15:47, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello- Yes, some publications and organizations treat such names as proper nouns, but Wikipedia's manual of style does not; see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Animals,_plants,_and_other_organisms. There has no doubt been considerable discussion of this, but I would not know where to direct you for that. Eric talk 19:47, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
