- ... that in 1927, Oregon state representative John H. Carkin was unanimously elected Speaker of the Oregon House, garnering support from all the Democratic House members as well as his fellow Republicans?
Source: On 10 January 1927, the Medford Mail Tribune reported: "T. C. Cramer of Grants Pass nominated John H. Carkin of Medford for speaker. … Carkin was immediately unanimously elected."(subscription required) The Oregon State Archives 1927 Oregon Legislators and Staff Guide confirms Carkin served as speaker during the 1927 legislative session.
