Other meanings of "spiking guns."
The expression "spike (ed) their guns," or variations of it is still in use, but usually refers to some action that has prevented an opponent (of any type) from proceeding with already-made plans, or has effectively neutralized the opponent. This definition probably doesn't belong in this article, so can someone sugguest a better place for it?
