My proposal for criteria required for persons to be included in the 'Notable Pakistani Sikhs' section

I reverted the inclusion of historical Sikhs who happened to be born in land that makes up modern-day Pakistan but either died before 1947 or left during the partition of 1947. Sikhism was founded in what is today Pakistan, so a massive percentage of Sikhs would be eligible to be included in this article under such loose requirements. This does not serve any use, as these historical Sikhs had no connection to the Pakistani state, other than happening to be born in land that later became Pakistan, or they disassociated themselves from then newly-established Pakistan when partition occurred in 1947, by moving away.

Therefore, it only really makes sense to include two groups of Sikhs in this section, from my perspective:

1) Sikhs who were born pre-1947 in land that would become Pakistan AND decided to remain in Pakistan after 1947.

2) Sikhs who were born after 1947 in Pakistan.

The following types of Sikhs SHOULD NOT be included in this section, as it makes little sense to do so:

1) Sikhs who were born 1947 in land that is today part of Pakistan but died before 1947. These Sikhs have no connection to the Pakistani state other than being born in land that would become Pakistan. If you were to include these kind of Sikhs in this article, it becomes ridiculous because then Sikhs like Guru Nanak and countless/innumerable other religious/historical Sikh figures would be "Pakistani Sikhs", which does not seem like a logical conclusion to make.

2) Sikhs who were born in land that is today Pakistan but decided to move away in 1947 during partition. Similar reasons to the previous category. How would these people be considered "Pakistani Sikhs"? It makes little sense. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 01:13, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
