Salim Yusuf's fringe views on saturated fat

Salim Yusuf's views on saturated fat and sodium intake are against the scientific consensus have been refuted by the American Heart Association [1]. This source was already on the article [2] before I edited the article. Psychologist Guy (talk) 02:07, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Got it! He is an author of the Astrup article, though. Reading the sources to see how they relate. In WP:MEDPOP, I see that MedPage Today isn't the best of sources, so I'm poring over it all to come up with a solution in a couple of hours.-- Quisqualis (talk) 02:24, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see you are an experienced medical user, you probably know more than me about correct sourcing on this but I think we need to expand the article about his views on diet. Is this a reliable source [4] ? In regard to WP:MEDPOP I generally agree with that but it's sometimes hard to find other sources so they end up being used. There is an interview here [5]. Yusuf is a global leader in cardiovascular disease research [6] but in the last 4 years has started promoting some contrarian dietary views about saturated fat intake. He's now co-authoring papers with low-carb writers like Nina Teicholz and Jeff S.Volek who works for the Atkins company. Psychologist Guy (talk) 02:36, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In regard to this paper he co-authored with Arne Astrup [7] it was sponsored by Teicholz's Nutrition Coalition and several beef companies. There was a large discussion here about why that paper is unreliable for Wikipedia [8]. Yusuf has received research funding from the Dairy Farmers of Canada and the National Dairy Counci Psychologist Guy (talk) 02:41, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that MEDPOP can be handy. I'm hoping the MedNews article will give a hint as to its sources, which may be useful for the Yusuf article. As a side note, I am a bit of a true believer in animal fats over refined carbs, but not an ideologue. I seem to remember when the article may have taken a more strenuous anti-SF stand in the past, so I'm just hoping for more nuanced research and better interpretations of the existing research in the near future.-- Quisqualis (talk) 04:54, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit promoting false balance about saturated fat

A recent mass edit by Rickyblainecasa violates WP:Fringe, WP:MEDRS and WP:NPOV. We recently had a similar discussion on the Ancel Keys talk-page.

Firstly, many of the refences added by this user do not mention Salim Yusuf, this is a bad case of WP:OR. Also Gary Taubes and many of the other authors cited are not reliable . Psychologist Guy (talk) 17:40, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
