What does "package" mean here?

The article says "...anaerobic bacteria which at the same time help to package the remains." Unless "package" has some very specific medical meaning (and if so, a link to another article about it might be called for), then this phrasing is puzzling. It creates the image of the bacteria putting something into boxes. Maybe this really is a good analogy for what is happening (I don't myself know) but if so, I think a little more explanatory text is called for. --Ericjs (talk) 18:33, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
