Matt Pietrek (born 1966) is an American spirits writer and historian who operates the Rum Wonk[1] and Cocktail Wonk [2] web sites. He has also authored several books on these topics. His Modern Caribbean Rum book won the 2023 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Award for Best New Book on Drinks Culture, History, or Spirits.[3]
Pietrek and his wife, Carrie Smith, operate Wonk Press LLC,[4] a publishing company.
Previously, he was a computer specialist and author specializing in Microsoft Windows and wrote several books on the topic. Between 1993 and 2001 he wrote the column "Under the Hood" in MSJ (and subsequently) MSDN Magazine. Between 2004 and 2011 he worked at Microsoft on Visual Studio and Hyper-V.
