Andrea Kathryn Datzman is an American composer and musician. She is best known for serving as an orchestrator and score coordinator for Michael Giacchino, having worked on several of his projects since 2005 including the films Star Trek, Inside Out, Zootopia and Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as the television series Alias and Lost.

In 2024, Datzman was hired to score Inside Out 2 in place of Giacchino,[2] becoming the first female composer of a Pixar Animation Studios film, as well as the first female composer of an animated film to make over $1 billion at the global box office (and the fourth composer overall to do so after Pinar Toprak, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Lady Gaga).

Career

Datzman began her film work in 2005 as an additional orchestrator with John Ottman for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.[3] That same year, Datzman began working with Michael Giacchino on Alias and later on Lost. She then worked as Giacchino's score assistant on Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible III, directed by J.J. Abrams and co-written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. She would also serve as Giacchino's assistant on the Disney/Pixar film Ratatouille, which would go on to earn Giacchino an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score. In 2015, Datzman wrote and provided the vocals for the 2015 film Inside Out, which Giacchino also scored.

Datzman began to work as a solo composer in 2019 with the Star Trek: Short Treks episode Ask Not, before going on to score the Disney+ miniseries Dug Days (with Curtis Green)[4] and its short film Carl's Date, the latter premiering in theaters alongside Pixar's Elemental.

In 2024, Datzman was hired to score Pixar's Inside Out 2, becoming the first woman to score a Pixar film. In addition to utilizing several of Giacchino's themes from the first Inside Out, Datzman incorporated new musical elements to the score in order to better reflect the film's characters and their personalities.[5]
