The 1st International Legion originally known as the 1st Battalion Vovkodav, is a pro-Ukraine foreign volunteer unit fighting in the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

History

The unit was formed on 27 February 2022 as the 1st Battalion Vovkodav.[1] In May of 2022, the unit's commanding officer who goes by the callsign "Bohdan", was replaced by a man who goes by the name Anatoliy. Anatoliy ordered members of the brigade to do an inventory check and found that 54 U.S.-made M4 carbines, several RPGs, NLAWs, grenades, a couple of pistols, and a few thousand rounds of ammunition went missing. Furthermore, Chief Sergeant Nikolay "Mykola" Bakaliuk who was charge of the legion's armory room at the time, had disappeared.[2] The unit would later participate in the 2022 Kharkiv counteroffensive.[3] In late 2022 the unit was renamed the 1st International Legion. In an interview, the deputy commander of the unit who goes by the callsign "Kenobi" said in an interview that there will be "No peace while Russians exist".[4]
