Move top-level page to remove trailing slash

Hi. I recommend moving this page from Wikipedia:VideoWiki/ to Wikipedia:VideoWiki - that way you will automatically get the "breadcrumb links" under the title at all the subpages, and therefore people will easily be able to navigate from the sub-pages to this one. I would boldly move it myself, but possibly there's a reason you haven't done so already. Cheers, Quiddity (talk) 07:51, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks User:Quiddity. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 23:48, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

About this WikiProject

In the "About this WikiProject" section, where it says These videos show a series of still images or short video segments well reading associated text., is "well" supposed to be "while"? If so, I suggest using something like "These videos show a series of still images or short video segments with voiceover narration." isaacl (talk) 22:09, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:25, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

possible collaboration with WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia

The text to speech voices are good for getting content available quickly, but at least for me the tone can make it a little hard to follow sometimes. Since the videos are just summaries, it would take a lot less time than reading a full article to redub, and there are plenty of people here willing to read and record. I think it could be quite fruitful. Arlo James Barnes 05:28, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:Arlo Barnes we have a feature attached to it that allows dubbing (for languages unsupported by TTS). We found two main issues; (1) dubbing is semi-permanent. Anyone can make a small edit using the exiting TTS and it (nearly) immediately is reflected in the video. We believe this is in the Wikipedia spirit. (2) most of the overdubs were worse than the TTS - few volunteers can properly script or speak in a way that creates dynamic content. My personal belief is the future lies in better TTS, and finding volunteers that have some experience in script writing to make the content more dynamic. Data on video plays

Here maybe... [1] Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 06:34, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Per here[2] not clean data on how many actually hit play. Hopefully we will have better data in a year. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:02, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Added note at WikiProject_Spoken_Wikipedia

I've added a note over at WT:WikiProject_Spoken_Wikipedia about this project, since members of that community might have relevant experience for helping on voice-overs. I'm also willing to do some of the voiceover work if that's useful at this stage. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 03:55, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to make a video

I'm trying to fix the wheel bearings on my trailer. And I found out I have a good electric die grinder. So maybe I could make a video about wheel hubs, or die grinders, or something. Is that the kind of thing that would be welcomed, or would it just get reverted? Peregrine Fisher (talk) 09:46, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User:Peregrine Fisher we have an article on Wheel hub assembly so making a video on the topic would not be unreasonable. Video compiling tool is unfortunately down right now. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:19, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Controlling length of a section

In this example, videowiki skips to the next section as soon as it finishes reading out the words, rather than playing the full media clip. Is there a way to get it to play the full media clip before moving to the next section? T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 01:59, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Evolution and evolvability I don't think there is at the moment, but you can request changes to the Wideowiki system to allow for that. People seem to be making feature requests on the bug report page, but that doesn't seem to be getting a lot of traffic from the developers. You should probably make a feature request at Phabricator. - ZLEA T\C 12:45, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Evolution and evolvability - Will work on this feature, and get back to you by 20th. ZLEA : We have been struggling with keeping ourselves aflot, and this pandemic has made the situation worse - that's the reason for the minimum activity from our end. We just received a small grant from Mozilla for improving this tool by building a "in-video text editor" that will allow users to edit the "text inside the videos" collaboratively too. Hopefully, we will be much more active then (assuming we can pay the bills :P).
I don't blame you, we're all in a tough spot right now. Keep up the good work. - ZLEA T\C 15:36, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
User:Evolution and evolvability we have gotten the tool running again. Have added your request here.
Our next effort is to transition the software to the upgrades rolling out on WMFlabs. After this we will begin looking at improvements such as this. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 14:22, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Compiling of videos

Currently the tool is down. We are needing to figure out funding for a programmer to get the tool back up. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:21, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
