WikiProjectMed:OWID popup

(Accepted by the WMF July 31st 2025)

Shows a static image from Commons, and then once the "play" button is pressed a consent pop up appears. If this is accepted it then pulls data directly from OWID.

Plus

• Less work to maintain
• More up to date with respect to OWID content
• Has the ability to visualize content the OWID slider does not

Minus

• We rely somewhat on the privacy and security of OWID themselves. However OWID and the WMF have a MOU and the WMF approves of this approach.
• Difficult to translate material into other languages. OWID is willing to consider build this infrastructure.
