Is this template necessary?

I don't see the point of this template, except perhaps as a way to gather/advertise the personal interests of one particular Wikipedia contributor. That's not a good reason for creating a template.--orlady 18:48, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is an obvious taxonomy of subjects. The template is helpful and noteworthy; its not redundant; it is used; and it is from a NPOV, all per TfD. - Freechild 19:49, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The taxonomy isn't at all obvious unless you have a particular POV. From the POV of a person who is 62 years old and is experiencing employment discrimination related to Ageism, the article about Ageism has nothing to do with Unschooling, Day of Silence, or most of the other articles that are now displaying this template. From the POV of a LGBT activist interested in the Day of Silence, that event is an LGBT event, not a Youth Empowerment event, and it has nothing to do with topics like Generation gap and Company of Young Canadians. Professional educators, who generally happen to be adults, are likely to perceive that articles such as Service-learning and Experiential learning are about educating youth, not about empowerment of youth. A former member of Students for a Democratic Society or Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee is unlikely to recall these as "Youth Empowerment" organizations. I could go on and on, but I hope you grasp my point that you are viewing the world through a filter of your own personal perspectives, and that this is a POV, not an neutral and objective perspective.--orlady 21:34, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the template topics are too ambitious then edit them. However, the validity of youth empowerment as a topic that needs a template isn't about POV. - Freechild 22:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I continue to be unable to see the merit of this template, and I have trouble imagining how anything of value could result from editing the list of elements on this template. You have not explained your statement about "validity of youth empowerment as a topic," leading me to think that this is merely a statement about your personal commitment to youth empowerment.--orlady 23:13, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let's wait a minute and see if anyone else contributes to the convo. You framed this conversation as a personal attack, and I believe we should see what other WP editors have to say. Matter of fact, if you are going to continue to make this personal, go ahead and post it at TfD. - Freechild 23:31, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My concern is related to the template, which I think detracts from most of the articles it was added to, but if you want to view this as a personal attack, so be it. I will take this to TfD to expand the discussion.--orlady 01:39, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
