New form of B12 deficiency discovered

Very interesting, at the preprint site MedRxiv: Transcobalamin Receptor Autoantibodies in Central Vitamin B12 Deficiency. The list of authors looks impressive, thus I guess it will be published eventually. The authors say that the newly-discovered disease is similar in its mechanisms to the autoantibody-induced form of cerebral folate deficiency. Antibodies thwart the transport of the vitamin to the central nervous system, and the blood levels of the vitamin remain misleadingly normal. Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection as cause of B12 deficiency

It's well established that M. Tuberculosis is dependent on vitamin B12 [1] and deficiency of B12 in organism is common in TB patients.[2][3]. Some limited studies suggest it as a biomarker of TB treatment. I sugget to mention this fact. AXONOV (talk) 16:46, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
