Removing unsourced "fatal" language

In cleaning up this article and adding some needed sources, I removed "or prove fatal" from the introduction since the source cited doesn't include anything to that effect. Please add it back in or flag for me if it should still be included, as I don't want to downplay the seriousness of these diseases. Thanks.
