Vietnam

The section on Vietnam sounds as if there was a two-child policy in the 1960s, which was then abandoned and re-introduced in the 1990s. This is not supported by any of the given sources. The only source mentioning the 1960s explicitly states that the policy was in place until 2003, not even mentioning the 1990s. --Roentgenium111 (talk) 16:13, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Two-Child Policy in Vietnam

I am currently in a class at Rice University on Human Development and am looking to reorganize and expand the article on the two-child policy in Vietnam, modeling the structure of the article to reflect the Wikipedia article for China's One-child policy. Thus, I propose to organize the expansion of the section on Vietnam of the Two-child policy to be:

    • History
    • Administration
    • Current status
  • 2 Effects
    • Reduction of the birthrate
    • Sex-based birth rate disparity
    • Twins sought
    • Potential social problems
    • Birth tourism
  • 3 Criticism
    • Overstatement of the effect of the policy on birth reduction
    • Unequal enforcement
    • Accusations of human rights violations
    • Alleged effect on infanticide rates
  • 4 Relaxation of policy

However, I have just started conducting research on this topic, and would greatly appreciate any feedback! If you have any sources, that would be greatly appreciated. Furthermore, Roentgenium111, if you are still interested in this topic, do you have any suggestions on additional sub-headings and ways of organizing this information?

Great work on the Vietnam section!

This looks great, Appleangel11! Everything seems well-sourced and overall the article is very comprehensive. There are a few sentences that could be edited for clarity, and some spaces issues throughout the article, but these are small edits. The one thing that I think could improve the NPOV of the article is if you included a section on the pro-argument for the population policy (that might be advocated for by people other than the government). It’s touched upon through government quotes throughout the article, but it would be nice to have a section parallel to the criticisms section.

Human Rights Aspect

Good article. One major omission is a discussion of the legal framework for family size and timing in most western countries. Arguably the most important (and the largest legal hurdle a two child policy any "Western" country would face if it wanted to introduce such a policy) is international Human Rights law in the form of the not very well publicise Declaration on Population, signed by 12 Heads of State on the 10th December 1966 which stated 'The majority of parents desire to have the knowledge and the means a plan their families; that the opportunities to decide the number and spacing of children is a basic human right.' United Kingdom

As the entry for the United Kingdom only contained the (albeit) accurate report of political discussions surrounding the introduction of a two child policy as regards welfare benefits, I updated this section to reflect the recent introduction of this policy and the widespread criticism this has caused. It may be worth adding the fact that the UK does not have a high birth rate to the original section (which only quotes the claims that were made at the time this policy first started to be discussed in the UK). But as I am not sure whether this is appropriate for the purpose of this article, I have left the original section untouched. Small candles (talk) 18:24, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2018 Updates on said policy changes

Hello, I am a practicing student editor from the WikiProjects class software. I noticed that most of the info from the article has not been updated since around 2015/2016. I am looking at maybe adding additional info that has been more recent as of 2018. Although I need to sort through sources, I am seeing results of how the two child policy is negatively affecting china. There are also studies of how the new 2 child policy is negatively affecting gender roles in China. The links i need to see how reliable the resources are and of course, proper citations are needed. If there are any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
