Article Title

By far the most common rowed vehicles are boats. This article would more appropriately be titled "Rowed Land Vehicles". I have added the title tag until this is resolved.

Could be. Got any suggestions, preferably neither trade names nor unreasonably cumbersome? I did think of "Rowed land vehicles" or something like it, but felt it too long, and "street rowing vehicles" suited me but someone else thought that the vehicles wouldn't be safe on the road. I have reverted the removal of the title tag. In addition to issue that most rowed vehicles are boats, a google search on "Rowed Vehicle" gets very few hits that use the term in the context of this article, and all the links that I have checked that are in this context either point back to this wikipedia article or quotes of this wikipedia article. Hello, in the book "Bicycling Science" (1983) Whitt, Frank Rowland (1983). Bicycling Science. The Massachsetts Institute of Technology. ISBN 0-262-23111-5. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help) two examples are shown, a tricycle build by George W. Lee in the 1870s, refered as a "rowing-action tricycle" and a design from K. Borkowski (1974) refered as a "rowing-action bicycle". I think rowing cycles or rowing-action cycles would be the better name for this category. The name "rowing bike" is used by Thys but as a generic name, you could see the homepage in German and Dutch use the respective generic names in german and dutch (Ruderrad and Roeifiets), while Rowbike is a trademark. Rowed vehicles would clearly include boats.Cirrocumulus (talk) 14:41, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article is currently referencing a lot of specific models. Crediting manufacturers for specific significant innovations is fine, but listing all the models they make and minor variations (such as adult versus child size) is not. I have removed a few of them. Some innovations have multiple manufacturers listed, so some digging needs to be done to figure out who has the patent, credit them appropriately, and delete the manufactures that copied the design later.

I have put the list of manufacturer's sites back in. I think it's useful in the context of this specific topic, in which a few models are made to remarkably different designs in limited numbers, nobody seems to have done any comprehensive reviews, and, as far as I know, nobody's getting rich from all this. The manufacturers are in many cases the only available source. Richard Keatinge (talk) 15:55, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that having a list of manufacturers is the same as advertising. There is no positive or negative comment, only the link. If all are in the list, there is no advantage for anyone (that is not the fall for having an article for only one manufacturer as is the Rowbike). As there are some very dissimilar designs and they are not covered in the article yet, I think it should be included again Cirrocumulus (talk) 14:31, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Commercial nonsense

Some new advertising material about Tarasov rowcycles has crept in, not all of it good copy. I have removed peacock/gibberish:"Based on human biomechanics and kinesiology, row-drive™ utilizes a system of belts and pulleys to capture the energy generated by the legs in a 2:1 ratio to the energy generated by the arms during and equivalent stroke." Please don't reinsert it unless you can obtain some consensus for doing so. Richard Keatinge (talk) 21:19, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: page moved. While consensus was clear, do note the existence of rowbike. Don't know if this means a merge or not. Vegaswikian (talk) 23:33, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rowed vehiclesRowing cycles — Rowing cycles appears to be a generic name, used for a long time and offers a better dscription of the subject. See also discussion *article title*. Cirrocumulus (talk) 20:48, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support the current title is stupid, as if a rowboat weren't a vehicle; how preposterous. 76.66.195.196 (talk) 03:21, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The original name is a little daft when considered, but I imagine the intent was to mean "Rowed land vehicles" (in the same way as most people use Animal to mean Mammal and exclude fish). --Natet/c 11:04, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

1888 Roadsculler race

Should the late 1880s "roadsculler" craze be worked into this article. Just ran across a picture of the contestants in the 1888 Madison Square Garden race.[1].--Milowenthasspoken 03:48, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
