Tract versus system

What is the difference between respiratory tract and respiratory system? --I-user (talk) 18:37, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

the system would be the physiology of respiration and the tract would be the anatomy of the respiratory system, the system should reference the anatomy but a separate article is necessary. Je.rrt (talk) 17:43, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merges

Proposed merge with Upper respiratory tract

As per gastrointestinal tract, it is logical to display these three articles (Upper, Lower and Respiratory tract) on the same page. I propose this merge because:

  • It enhances the quality of the information on all three articles to have it displayed in context
  • It decreases needless fragmentation and duplication
  • The term 'respiratory tract' clearly encompasses lower and upper respiratory tract
  • Having these articles separate needlessly divides and fragments these anatomy topics LT910001 (talk) 10:58, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Respiratory tree

This article could easily be integrated within 'respiratory tract' whilst providing readers a much greater amount of content, context and quality-written anatomical descriptions. "Respiratory tree" could be integrated as a single paragraph or less, and does not need its separate article LT910001 (talk) 11:11, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with airway

The content in airway should be merged here and then airway should become a disambiguation page. There is hardly any content in airway now. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:32, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that half of foreign languages are interwiki linked with airway and the other half are with respiratory tract. Since I see no overlap, I think that is supporting evidence that other languages only have one article for this concept. That is not a rationale for merging but if there is a merge, those links need to be merged also. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:36, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
LT910001 Thoughts? I am pinging you because you have a history of merging things here. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:37, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I feel we should merge airway here, and leave it as a redirect. If we were to leave it as a disambig page I feel it would more-or-less be a reiteration of the respiratory tract article, ie "Airway may be used to refer to a component of the respiratory tract, such as...", so I feel it would be helpful to have it merge here. --LT910001 (talk) 00:44, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Generations

Where is the source that says human lungs contain up to 28 generations (dichotomous branching)? From what I have learned (as an anaesthetist) and looked up on the internet, 23 generations are the most commonly quoted figure. Furthermore in my opinion, quoting "up to" is not as helpful as the "average".Senaiboy (talk) 15:56, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Senaiboy for pointing this out. I have just completed a merge and restructure of the article from the above article. I feel some of the text is shoddy at best, and would be very grateful if you could run you eye over it more closely and make any changes you see fit. --LT910001 (talk) 00:23, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Tracheobronchial tree

This could readily be merged with 'respiratory tree' for greater readability and access. LT910001 (talk) 01:48, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Change page to Human respiratory system

Since Lung is divided into Human lung and Lung, have suggested on Respiratory system talk page, a separate page for human respiratory system which I think could be new home for Respiratory tract - there is a lot of duplicate material and think Respiratory system is more likely to be looked up than respiratory tract. Iztwoz (talk) 11:27, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It may be useful to split respiratory system into general and human, though that page doesn't actually have a lot specific to humans currently, so maybe not. The respiratory tract is anatomical whereas the respiratory system includes the anatomy of the respiratory tract, other respiratory anatomy, and respiratory physiology, so believe they should definitely be separate articles. PriceDL (talk) 04:23, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Human lung has since been merged. I don't think this page has enough content or relevant human-related content to be split at the moment. Ping to Iztwoz given it's been 2+ years. --Tom (LT) (talk) 20:04, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
