A note

I hope the group of students involved in creating this article will keep an eye on the talk page here, that is very important. I am also greeting you on your account talk page, User:Free2cdatruth. I have some suggestions for this article. Invertzoo (talk) 13:30, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello to Mikko Moy, Kiara Johnson, Yolanda Fish, Olivia Andrus, and Stephen Backus, students in the Wildlife Disease class FNR498 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, who are working on this article. Can I ask when your deadline is for this project? And will you be working during weekends, or only during the weekdays? I am ready to start fixing up the article, but I have not touched it yet. Just to let you know, any Wikipedia editor can join in on the process of improving an article and probably others will do so.

Some suggestions:

1. You need to remove the heading "Introduction". Then that section will automatically go to the top of the page above the table of contents, which is automatically generated by the software.

2. You need to fix your section headers so that only the first word is capitalized. So, for example, the first heading should read "Clinical signs of phaeohyphomycosis", not "Clinical Signs of Phaeohyphomycosis".

3. As the tag currently says as the top of your article, you need to create some blue links, that is to say links to other Wikipedia articles in your article. That's really essential.

4. You also need to work out a suitable category to put the article in. You can do that by looking at articles on similar subjects and see which categories they have been put in (it's always at the bottom of the page).

5. if you are not sure how to do something, find another article where that same thing has been done, look on the edit page of that article, and then copy and paste that little part into your edit page here, check it with the preview function, fill in the edit summary, and then save.

Good wishes and good luck with this piece of work, Invertzoo (talk) 14:18, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update: These five suggestions have now already been implemented by experienced editors. Invertzoo (talk) 16:15, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested merge?

When this article was created, there was already a pre-existing article (a very short stub) article Phaeohyphomycosis. (Presumably no-one did a search for the subject on Wikipedia before this duplicate article was created.) It would have been better to expand the pre-existig stub rather than starting a new article; however, here we are with two articles on the same subject.

I think the merger of these two articles is inevitable since they are on exactly the same subject. It would be best to merge the content of the shorter one into this new larger one. Note that the content of the shorter article is valuable and should be integrated into the newer one, not simply deleted. Once that is done, the old article can be turned into a redirect page. Then finally, when all of that is finished, I think the new article should have its title "moved" to "Phaeohyphomycosis", as that title is the most concise. As an experienced editor I am very willing to help with this rather complicated process, or anything else you may need help with... please just ask. Thank you, Invertzoo (talk) 15:23, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Thanks to help from User:JoJan, the merge is now complete and the edit history from the earlier stub article has been preserved. Invertzoo (talk) 15:31, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Moved here from the top of the article

These "invisible notes" were at the top of the article, visible only on the talk page. I have moved them here as this is a more appropriate place for notes of this type:

  • "Don't mess with this line!"
  • "This page was first produced by Mikko Moy, Kiara Johnson, Yolanda Fish, Olivia Andrus, and Stephen Backus as a part of Wildlife Disease class FNR498 at Purdue University, West lafayette, In (Fall 2013)"
  • "This may be a class project but please feel free to add any information you have to make this better."

I put the notes here now because a fair bit of work has been done on the article today by established editors, and no edits have been carried out by the groups of students since 14 November, which is 6 days ago. I am assuming the class project is finished. Invertzoo (talk) 00:24, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

I am Stephen Backus and I am the technical representative for my group. AKA the only one with any kind of programming experience.

First I would like to thank all of you for your time and effort in welcoming us to Wikipedia and encouraging us to make this a better page. I must be honest this is the first Wikipedia page that we have ever produced and not quite sure of the procedures/ format/ or the community. So, please be patient while we figure this out. Now for some answers.

  • The assignment has been reviewed and graded. So let's start making some changes!
  • I agree with the suggestions and I can make the correction in a few weeks. (Purdue's finals are in two weeks and most of my time is spent studying for them) Please feel free to make any changes that will improve the quality of the page or the information
  • I agree that a merge of the articles is important. Originally I placed this article under a separate title because this was a class project and wanted to provide an example of our work. Now that the assignment is over I want to provide the best quality information possible.
  • If you as an experienced editor would like to make the merge please do so. I am very new and this and I do not want to mess this up.
  • Thanks for moving our names and information to the talk section. I was not sure where this information needed to go and as a programmer I assumed hidden in the code was fine.

Personally I want to see the continued improvement of this article and I would like to assist in anyway that I can. I do apologize for the slow response. I was not expecting this much attention this quickly and I have been a bit distracted with school work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Free2cdatruth (talkcontribs) 12:58, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Stephen Backus! Thanks for your note and for the time and work your group have put into creating this article, which contains a lot more useful information than the older little stub did. As for the new article, many of the changes it needed have already been made over the last day or so, as you can see if you look at the edit history of the article (click on the "view history" tab at the top of the article page). I have not quite completed the final part of the "merge" procedure; I am first checking about the article title with an admin. By the way, when you leave a message, you can sign it by typing four tildes. the wiggly things at the upper left of your keyboard. The software will automatically convert that to live links to your user page, your talk page, the date and time. Best, Invertzoo (talk) 16:11, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Merge now completed. Invertzoo (talk) 20:12, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
