Drafting a New Lead Section and Proposed Changes

Proinflammatory cytokines are a specific category of cytokines that are important in cell signaling. These cytokines act to make a disease worse, contrasted to those that are anti-inflammatory, which promote healing and reduce inflammation. Functions include neutralizing antibodies, serving as soluble receptors and receptor antagonists, and inhibiting proteases. For example, chemokines are a class of genes that are proinflammatory. IL-1, TNF, and chemokines are examples of proinflammatory cytokines.

Proinflammatory cytokines work with other important molecules from the immune system, such as neutrophils and leukocytes, in generating an immune response. This proinflammatory cytokine-mediated inflammation generates a collection of gene products when there are triggers that notice the presence of a foreign body. However, excessive amounts of proinflammatory cytokines have been shown to cause detrimental effects, causing chronic systemic elevations in the body. Scarpioni, Roberto (2016). It is important that the regulation between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines stay balanced, as that could alter one's susceptibility to a disease.

Proposed Changes: I plan to add more information in the "Clinical implications" section about:

  • role in different cancers
  • cardiovasular diseases (atherosclerosis)
  • depression
  • causing neuroinflammation and its relation to the microglia
  • (maybe adding an entire section about diseases)

Additional things to possibly add:

  • Regulation of Proinflammatory cytokines
  • Anti-inflammatory cytokines and pro inflammatory cytokines working together
  • More detailed description about their functions
  • relation to Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Graft vs Host diseases
  • Methods of blocking proinflammatory cytokines that cause disease

Helpful articles about proinflammatory cytokines

As a part of my Immunology class, we are choosing an article to expand and provide more information. This article appears to be a starter article that is important within a larger topic of cell signaling. There are many cytokines that send different signals throughout the body, but these specific ones are important in promoting an immune response. Because this article is barely starting to develop, I compiled a bibliography of relevant articles that relate to the study of proinflammatory cytokines:

copyediting and attention by content expert needed

The article is on a really poor level regarding content, structure and style.

It was apparently written by people inexperienced in writing in general, lack of content knowledge, dare-I-say expertise (even basic basic physiology like what are white blood cells), and inexperienced in WP editing. Haven´t checked for copyvios, but the text to me suggests really uncritical lifting and paraphrasing from biomed journals.

content examples:

  • No definition section- a problem in 80% of science articles...
  • entirely human focus (very primitive)
  • editorializing.
  • WP articles must be balanced ( here: just negative impacts of Proinflammatory cytokineare mentioned)

formal examples:

  • someone changed the page title to singular, ok, but didnt do teh work in teh body of teh text (not thorough, not smart or lazy)
  • use of the term patient (must not be used).
  • excessive wordiness (WP should clarify and not complicate/hype things)

references:

  • no reviews used
  • as much as possible open access refs should be used. otherwise how can anyone but a member of a university check the veracity of a claim?

Ive just noticed, that Carleton College is unleashing its brains on immunology articles again and I hope that rather than creating new bad articles existing immunology articles are getting a thorough makeover and maintenance check!
