Re Birmingham

Hirudin was discovered by J.B. Haycraft at Birmingham University in 1884

Not for sure. Sources divide between him being at Birmingham, the University of Wales, and a laboratory in Strasbourg. His paper might elucidate: On the action of secretion obtained from the medicinal leech on the coagulation of the hlood. Haycraft, J. B. (1884) Proc. R. Soc. Lond. B Biol. Sci. 36, 478–487. Etymology

Is hirudin named after the Japanese word for leech, which is Hiru. --Timtak (talk) 19:33, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
