Could someone explain here whether envenomation will occur if a person ingests, for example, a snake-bitten animal?

Venoms are mostly protenaceous in nature and ingesting will lead to their degradation (digestion) in the gut. For the venom, therefore, to act it should be directly absorbed or injected in to the organism. Thus, envenomation is highly unlikely by oral ingestion of venom or venom contaminated food. However, it should be kept in mind that any injury in the proximal part of the GIT may allow the venom to be absorbed before it is destroyed by the gut acid or enzymes and may cause symptoms similar to envenomation. --117.203.194.51 (talk) 07:48, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
